The best black tea in the world comes from the tea-growing region of Darjeeling. The region is located in India at the foot of the Himalayas. Top quality is produced in only 87 tea gardens on steep slopes. Other excellent black teas come from Assam in India and the island of Sri Lanka, which gave its name to the famous Ceylon tea.
Incidentally, black tea is harvested from the same plant as green tea: Camelia Sinensis. It is the different processing that determines whether it becomes a green tea or black tea. Only in Assam does a different tea plant grow, which gives Assam black tea its full, dark characteristics.
